Special Olympics Australia was established in 1976. It provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability, regardless of their skill level. There are fourteen official sports: aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, cricket, golf, gymnastics, ice skating, sailing, soccer, softball, snow sport, tennis and tenpin bowling. Through sport, the athletes get an opportunity to get fit, develop skills, make friends and be part of a community.
The main function of the Sydney Heritage Fleet is the restoration, operation and maintenance of a fleet of historically significant vessels. The Fleet relies on its volunteers to carry out the work involved. Youth Challenge Australia is a non-profit, non-religious, non-government organisation that actively engages Australian volunteers in grassroots development work in Indigenous Australia, Vanuatu, India, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Guyana. Volunteers work in collaboration with local communities and partner organisations to assist the growth of sustainable and positive development. YCA was founded on the belief that Australian youth have an interest in and a commitment to contributing to community development.
